Teaching methods

To attain the learning outcomes, the programme employs various teaching methods.

In the first year, the teaching methods for each course entail lectures, interactive sessions, presentations and examples shown during lectures supplemented with practicals/ laboratory work/ exercises. Workshop activities, lectures by invited speakers and company visits represent a limited share in the programme during the first year.

In the second year, teaching methods entail 25% lectures, interactive sessions and examples, at least 25% practicals/laboratory work, tutorials, workshops, invited speakers, company visits and internships, and 50% activities relating to the research component of the programme, master’s thesis.

About IUPFOOD-East Africa

The Master of Science in Sustainable Food Processing and Product Development is an interuniversity programme in food (IUPFOOD-East Africa) jointly organized by three universities in the East African region namely; Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT, Kenya), Makerere University (MAK, Uganda) and The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology( NM-AIST, Tanzania).

This programme is supported by KU Leuven and Ghent University through the VLIR-UOS funded IUPFOOD ICP Connect project and LCEFoNS IUC project.
