The MSc programme is collaboratively organized by three top-ranked universities in the East African region; JKUAT, MAK and NM-AIST, that share a common vision to generate a pool of scientists that will lead to societal transformation.
JKUAT
- JKUAT is a public University in Kenya established under the University Act of 2012 and chartered in 2013.
- It is ranked as one of the top 5 universities in Kenya in teaching, research, and innovation for development.
- It is the home for Pan African University Institue for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) having about 500 graduate students from 42 African countries.
- JKUAT has about 32000 students: 25000 undergraduate and 7000 graduate.
- It operates under 5 colleges: College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Health Sciences, College of Pure & Applied Sciences, and College of Human Resource Development.
- It hosts the Legume Centre of Excellence for Food and Nutritional Security, an Institutional University Cooperation between JKUAT, KU Leuven and VUB funded by VLIR-UOS.
Makerere University
- Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University (MAK) is the oldest University in East Africa.
- It is ranked the best university in East Africa and is among the top 20 universities in Uganda.
- The University transitioned from the Faculty-based to the collegiate system in 2011 and has 9 constituent colleges.
- The University has student population of over 45,000 of whom about 15% are graduate students. The university hosts about 3,500 (approximately 8%) international students has a dedicated office which handles international student affairs.
- MAK runs several regional programmes that have been training regional students and facilitating staff exchange programs to enhance quality education and research.
- MAK has several research and outreach centres and is involved in several regional and international collaborations on research and teaching.
NM-AIST
- Accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
- Postgraduate Institution (MSc, PhD and Post docs) and operating under four schools.
- School of Life Sciences and Bio-Engineering (LiSBE).
- School of Computational and Communication Sciences and Engineering (COCSE).
- School of Materials, Energy, Water and Environmental Sciences (MEWES).
- School of Materials, Energy, Water and Environmental Sciences (MEWES).
- School of Business Studies and humanities (BUSH).
- One in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology located across Sub-Saharan Africa
- Envisioned to train and develop the next generation of African scientists and engineers in Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI).
- The training in SETI, incorporates appreciable doses of relevant business studies and humanities ingredients.
