About the MSc Programme
The MSc in Sustainable Food Processing and Product Development is a 2 year-programme jointly organized by three universities in the East African region namely; JKUAT (Kenya), MAK (Uganda) and NM-AIST (Tanzania).
Language of Instruction
The East African IUPFOOD programme, MSc in Sustainable Food Processing and Product Development will be taught in English.
The language requirements for admission to the programme are as stated below.
English Proficiency
Applicants are fluent in English (reading, listening, speaking and writing).
All applicants who have not obtained a previous degree in a programme taught in English outside the three East African Countries or native English speaker (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc.) must submit a certificate proving their proficiency in English.
Applicants need to have obtained a score of at least 79 on the internet based TOEFL test (sent by ETS) with scores of at least 18 on all components, or a score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS test (sent by the official IELTS center administered by The British Council or IDP Education) with scores of at least 6 on all components.
Career prospects
Graduates of the East African IUPFOOD programme are expected to competently pursue careers in:
- academia (PhD student, teaching assistant)
- research (scientific researcher, project manager, consultant)
- food manufacturing (food and science technologist, food process engineer, food process and product development manager, quality control/assurance manager, laboratory technologist)
- healthcare (food science and nutritionist)
- government (food and nutrition security specialist, regulatory officer, policy specialist) entrepreneurship
Degree award
The grading will be as follows:
- < 50%: Fail
- 50 - 59.9%: Pass
- 60 - 69.9%: Merit
- 70 - 79.9%: Distinction
- 80 - 84.9%: Great Distinction
- >= 85% : Greatest Distinction
