Programme objectives
The East African IUPFOOD programme, MSc in Sustainable Food Processing and Product Development is a 2-year programme jointly organized by three universities in the East African region, namely: JKUAT (Kenya), Makerere University (Uganda), and NM-AIST (Tanzania).
Objectives
The overall objective of the programme is to provide a holistic, multidisciplinary and specialized training in the field of food processing and product development for enhancing food and nutrition security in the East African region and beyond. The programme aims to:
- Enhance human capacity and strengthen collaborative research.
- Establish a strong partnership for mentoring and sharing experiences.
- Establish a coalition of action for championing existing and emerging issues in agri-food systems.
- Plant-based foods option.
- Animal-based foods option.
- Quality and safety management for sustainable food systems option.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes for this programme cover four aspects as recognized by
different food professionals and academic organizations.
The learning outcomes are:
- Knowledge and application of scientific and technological innovation in the field of food science and technology enhanced.
- Enabling research culture and environment established.
- Individual and institutional capacity and skills for handling animal and plant-based products improved.
- Outreach and linkage with diverse stakeholders of the society in the area of food science and technology sustained.
