Thirty three small and medium enterprise IT firms are set to benefit from a three-year export fund of Sh115 million ($1.26 million) from the Netherlands Trust Fund, aimed at creating new markets for their services.

This follows the signing of an agreement between the ICT ministry and the Netherlands government on Tuesday.

Under the partnership, to be implemented  by the ICT Authority — a government agency mandated to promote and market ICT services and products locally and abroad — the firms will benefit from training and advisory services on export marketing and access to finance.

Joseph Tiampati, PS, ICT ministry, said the project is aimed at creating jobs, increasing exports by Kenyan companies and building the capability of youth and women.

“Kenya ICT business is already at the tipping point of Africa transformation. Many of our businesses have now expanded beyond our borders,” Mr Tiampati said.
