Director’s Message
Welcome to the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT). We are a School within the College of Pure and applied Sciences (COPAS) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
We are focused on training, research and innovation in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Business Computing, data Science and Analytics and software engineering. All our undergraduate and postgraduate programs are approved by the Commission for University Education (CUE)
SCIT is a vibrant research and innovation School that has over time developed excellent expertise in cutting edge research in Artificial intelligence and machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Embedded and Edge Computing, Human Computer Interaction, ICT4D and Social Computing, Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies, Quantum Computing, Software Engineering, Programming Languages, Software Quality assurance, Big data analytics, Business Modelling, ICT policy and regulation, Responsible Computing, Requirements engineering, VM architectures among others. The faculty boasts of a vibrant and focused faculty who are well trained to handle the diverse fields offered at SCIT.
Our Postgraduate students and faculty play an integral role at the School by undertaking research and making great contributions in out-standing journals and making presentations in international conferences thereby contributing to knowledge in various research areas.
SCIT has fostered industrial partnership and collaboration with industry players in the ICT sector and government that spans over years. We value the industrial partnership with Microsoft, IBM, Huawei, Cisco, Mozilla, Red Hat and Apple among many others. These partnerships have enabled SCIT produce graduates who are ready to tackle industry problems and societal issues by providing state-of-art solutions and also graduates ready to start their own businesses. This has been made possible by creating a robust support mechanism of training in entrepreneurship and providing spaces for students where their ideas can be incubated and natured.
With a very vibrant student community, SCIT continues to participate in global competitions in the ICT sector, a space where our students have emerged winners on the global arena.
SCIT has a vibrant Alumni working in the country and spread out internationally who offer students mentorship and guidance on how to navigate the market-place. SCIT is very passionate and intentional about Women In Tech and has put up year long plans on high school reach-outs, invitations to Girls in STEM and mentorship sessions to encourage girls and women to take up careers in ICT.
In SCIT you will enjoy a vibrant Academic-industry relationship that spans across joint events, hackathons, women in Tech events, internships, talks, trainings, professional certifications, global competitions, that allows cross-pollination of ideas among faculty, students and our partners.
SCIT plays a critical role in producing human resource in the ICT sector in our country ad beyond borders and training for the African region and beyond. We greatly value our International students who play a big role in defining who we are.
