Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi on Monday, March 30, 2026 welcomed a team from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) to the University.
The visit, part of KMPDC’s broader regulatory mandate, served as an opportunity for JKUAT to showcase its unwavering commitment to excellence in medical training. The University demonstrated alignment with national training standards, through its robust academic programmes, quality infrastructure, and strategic vision for the future of health sciences.
The inspection team led by Prof. Stephen Ogendo, reviewed key areas of the medical programme, including curriculum design, teaching facilities, laboratory infrastructure, and staffing. In every aspect, JKUAT demonstrated readiness and resilience, underscoring its capacity to deliver quality medical education.
A major highlight was the presentation by Dean of the School of Medicine, Prof. Everisto Opondo, who outlined the school’s preparedness through its 12 departments. He also highlighted the school’s commitment to addressing emerging challenges, including increasing student enrolment and the growing demand for specialised postgraduate training.
Prof. Opondo noted that, beyond existing programmes such as Emergency Medicine and Dermatology, which were both pioneered by JKUAT in East Africa, the School is keen to expand its postgraduate offerings.
He also expressed the school’s desire to expand strategic collaborations to further enhance student training, citing existing partnerships such as the Memorandum of Understanding with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, which have provided valuable opportunities for academic exchange and clinical exposure.
The inspection exercise brought together the Principal of the College of Health Sciences (COHES), Dr. Reuben Thuo, all Heads of Departments, and College Liaison Dr. Musa Mohammed, reflecting the University’s collaborative and inclusive approach to quality assurance.
The KMPDC team provided constructive feedback, commending JKUAT for its progress and offering guidance on areas of further strengthening.
