The Juja Sub County security team paid a courtesy call on Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi at the institution’s main campus in Juja on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Led by the Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Daniel Ndege, the security team included officials from the National Police Service (NPS), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stationed in Juja.
The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the university and the security agencies in enhancing safety within and around JKUAT.
The Vice Chancellor lauded the continued partnership with the security agencies which has ensured a safe learning and working environment for JKUAT students, staff and the community.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellors: Prof. Bernard Ikua (Administration and Finance), Prof. Jackson Kwanza (Research, Production and Extension), and Prof. Thuku Thiong’o, (Ag. Academic Affairs).
Prof. Ngumi assured the security officials of JKUAT’s commitment to support security initiatives that promote peace and development in the area such as regular consultative meetings with stakeholders including the County government, JKUAT staff, student leaders, Juja community, business owners, and the security agencies.
This, the Vice Chancellor noted, has yielded positive results such as the installation of street lighting and the vetting of rental property owners to ensure students live in a safe and secure environment; and they can walk safely back to their hostels after evening classes or practical sessions.
Prof. Ngumi appreciated the infrastructural investment around Juja, which she noted, has facilitated seamless operations and boosted the appeal of the university to potential students. These developments include the construction of proper transport termini by the Kiambu County Government, an initiative that has enhanced security by reducing unregulated pick-up points.
She also highlighted the construction of hostels within the proximity of JKUAT and the setting up of various businesses that enable the community to access much of what they need. As a result, this has led to an exponential growth in population, which requires coordinated, strengthened security measures.
On his part, Mr. Ndege emphasized the need for information sharing, which he said, is key. He noted that various communication channels, such as WhatsApp groups are already in place to ensure all stakeholders remain up to date.
The security chiefs who also included Mr. Bernard Ngungu (Sub County Police Commander, Juja), Ms. Linet Njagi, and Ms. Peninah Magaki, appreciated the opportunity presented by the preliminary meeting at JKUAT and pledged to deepen cooperation with the university, underscoring the need for joint efforts in addressing emerging security concerns.
The meeting was also attended by Registrar, Administration and Finance, Dr. Rose Githu, Director of Security Services, Mr. Samuel Kamande, and his deputy, Mr. Stephen Kimani.
