
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) reaffirmed its commitment to staff wellness, unity, and institutional excellence as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, o opened the University Staff Sports Day on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Speaking during the colourful event, Prof. Ngumi said the gathering went beyond competition, describing it as a reflection of the university’s identity as a community that values health, togetherness, and excellence alongside its core mandate of teaching, research, innovation, and service.
“It is heartening to see so many of our staff gathered here in the spirit of togetherness and competitiveness,” the Vice Chancellor said.
She commended the University Sports Department for what she termed exceptional planning and coordination, saying their efforts aligned closely with JKUAT’s mission of nurturing leaders and professionals through quality training, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Ngumi observed that by promoting staff wellness and creating spaces for interaction, the department was strengthening the foundation upon which the institution’s success is built.
The Vice Chancellor also lauded the enthusiasm shown by participants, officials, spectators, and volunteers, emphasizing that their active involvement underscored a shared understanding that a healthy and engaged workforce is central to JKUAT’s continued growth.
“Today’s event not only promotes wellness and teamwork but also strengthens the energy, resilience, and collaboration that keep our institution moving forward,” she said.
Director of Sports, Dr. Waweru Kamaku stated that Sports Day forms part of JKUAT’s broader strategy to promote staff welfare and foster a vibrant university community that thrives both professionally and socially.
