SOMMME Holds Annual Sports and Fun Day

Winning Team!

The School of Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Material Engineering (SOMMME) knew that all work and no play could make Jack a dull boy. To combat that, they organized a sports and fun day on October 19, 2023, bringing together over 600 students and faculty members.

This annual event aimed to foster strong relationships among staff and students through various sports and games. Activities ranged from football and athletics to cycling, tug of war, and even chess, offering a diverse range of options to suit everyone’s interests.

On your marks, get ready, go!

In a fierce inter-departmental competition, the Department of Mechanical Engineering emerged as the overall winners, triumphing over Marine, Mining, and Mechatronics Engineering departments.

Dean SOMMME, Dr. Onesmus Muvengei, while appreciating the participants for gracing the event, emphasized that the sports day was not just about physical exercise but also about cognitive engagement to enhance teamwork among colleagues and the students they serve.

“This event transcends mere physical activity; it offers a stage to impart life lessons, such as the importance of teamwork, fostering cooperation, and striving collectively to reach shared objectives,” said Dr. Muvengei.
