As part of efforts to ease new students into university life, JKUAT’s School of Open, Distance and eLearning (SODeL) held an orientation exercise for its latest cohort, introducing them to the University’s flexible, technology-driven learning environment.
The students both newly admitted and transferred learners went through an orientation programme covering the University’s academic systems, online learning platforms, support services, and key policies that will guide them through their studies.
The process also included verification of academic documents and registration details to confirm students were successfully enrolled and ready to begin coursework.
Leading the session at the iPIC Building on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Mr. George Mwangi, Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator, stressed the importance of students understanding the University’s academic and administrative processes early on.
He urged learners to take full advantage of available support services and to stay disciplined despite the flexibility of the open and distance learning mode.
“SODeL faculty and staff are committed to supporting your academic journey. While our mode of learning offers flexibility, success requires discipline, effective time management, and active engagement with your lecturers and fellow students,” he said.
Mwangi also highlighted the need for students to become comfortable using the Learning Management System (LMS), the University website, official student email accounts, and other digital resources central to online learning.
Ms. Lilian Rafwa, an Administrative Assistant, urged students to ensure all documents submitted during admission were authentic and accurate, noting that valid academic and personal records are essential for smooth registration and compliance with university requirements.
She also encouraged students to use their official student email accounts when seeking support, describing them as the primary channel of communication with the University.
To further support the transition into university life, SODeL announced a series of follow-up online orientation sessions that will introduce students to additional academic and support services throughout their studies.
