
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) staged the 19th edition of the Scientific, Technological, and Industrialization Conference, bringing together leading scholars, innovators, and industry professionals to deliberate on cutting-edge advancements in science and technology.
The event provided a platform for participants to engage in discussions, share insights, and collaborate on possible solutions to global challenges.
As experts from various fields gathered to exchange valuable knowledge, the conference underscored the importance of collaborative approaches in tackling the complex issues the world faces today. Various speakers called upon researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to join forces in harnessing the power of innovation to drive sustainable development goals and economic growth.
Held on March 20-21, 2025, the annual conference is a key event at the university, designed to promote the advancement of research and technological innovation. It plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, fostering synrgies that can transform theoretical knowledge into practical, impactful solutions.
Under the theme “Promoting Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” the conference provided a platform for discussions on a wide range of thematic areas, including agricultural science and technologies for sustainable food and nutritional security; basic and applied sciences for industrialization; engineering technologies; the built environment; and other key sectors.

Speaking during the official opening of the conference, National Research Fund (NRF) CEO, Prof. Dickson Andala, lauded the event’s impact, highlighting its evolution into a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and the advancement of science, technology, and industry, both in Kenya and beyond.
He acknowledged the transformative role the conference plays in connecting academia with industry, creating an environment where ideas can flourish and lead to tangible solutions to both local and global challenges.
“This conference is a testament to the power of collective action, where the exchange of ideas and the sharing of expertise lead to groundbreaking solutions that address both local and global challenges,” said Prof. Andala.
Prof. Andala emphasized that research and innovation are at the heart of economic growth. He added that knowledge-driven economies are not only more resilient and competitive, but are also better positioned to address global challenges.

“Through our funding programs, which include bilateral and multilateral grants, strategic calls, and other partnership engagements, we remain committed to nurturing young researchers and ensuring that Kenya’s scientific ecosystem continues to thrive. This conference is a clear demonstration of our collaboration in fostering innovation, supporting research, and driving the development of impactful solutions for the future,” said Prof. Andala.
JKUAT Council Chair, Dr. Micah Onsando, stated that the event serves as a vital platform for exchanging ideas, solutions, and innovations aimed at addressing the challenges of our time. He noted the importance of the conference in fostering collaboration across sectors.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi, said that the conference not only celebrates the university’s extraordinary accomplishments but also serves as a call to action for the future.
