The Ajira Digital Platform recently conducted an engaging and practical training session for students from the College of Human Resource Development (COHRED) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Held on September 13th, 2024, the event aimed to introduce students to the boundless opportunities in online and digital work, with a focus on freelance work, transcription, virtual assistance, writing, and data entry.
Hands-On Learning Experience
Facilitated by experienced trainers from Ajira Digital and supported by the university administration, the session offered students hands-on guidance on navigating online platforms, creating competitive profiles, and securing freelance opportunities.
Magdalene Thuo, the lead trainer from Ajira Digital, praised the students’ active participation and highlighted the significance of digital skills in the modern job market.
“In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, the opportunities are endless if you have the right skills and mindset. At Ajira Digital, we are committed to equipping young people with the tools they need to succeed in the global online economy. This training is designed to help you not only access job opportunities but also build sustainable careers in the digital space,” said Ms. Thuo.
Bridging Education and Digital Skills
Anne Kaluvu, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, commended both the trainers and students for their enthusiasm. She emphasized the growing importance of integrating digital skills into the academic curriculum.
“The future of work is digital, and as students of JKUAT, you are in a unique position to leverage these opportunities not only for personal growth but also for the advancement of our economy. Digital platforms have the potential to open up doors for global networking, entrepreneurship, and financial independence,” said Ms. Kaluvu.
This collaboration between Ajira Digital and JKUAT exemplifies a shared commitment to empowering students with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital economy. By bridging the gap between traditional education and practical digital expertise, the training session is a stepping stone for students to achieve global success in the online job market.
A Pathway to Digital Empowerment
The Ajira Digital initiative continues to play a pivotal role in preparing Kenya’s youth for the future of work. Through such impactful sessions, students at JKUAT and beyond are gaining the tools to embrace digital opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the global economy.
