Message from the Chair, EEE

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), one of the oldest departments in the University. Currently the department has over 60 dedicated members of staff with a student population of about 850.

The department collaborates with industry to produce graduates with an excellent foundation in the principles of electrical, electronic as well as computer engineering.

Degree Programs

The department offers two Bsc. Programs (BSc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Bsc. Electronic and Computer Engineering). We also offer Msc and PhD in Electrical Engineering.

During the five-year BSc program, students are exposed to courses that develop their minds and nurture their abilities to conceptualize, analyse and solve problems related to this field.

We recognize that electrical energy is a dominant force driving development for any nation or community. We endeavor to give our students skills that will enable them appreciate the value of developing new and sustainable energy technologies in accordance to the UN sustainable development goal number 7. In order to achieve the countries Big 4 agenda and especially on enhancing manufacturing, the country requires reliable and stable supply of power.

Our graduates are equipped with skills required in the manufacturing industry, electrical power generation, transmission, distribution and regulation companies, computer, telecommunication industries, academic and research institutions among many other sectors of the economy.

Prof. Stanley Irungu Kamau

Associate Professor, EEE

Prof. Stanley Irungu Kamau is currently the Dean, School of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering. He received the BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering from Moi University, Kenya, in 1990, the M.Eng.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 1993, and the Dr.Ing. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany, in 2004. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, JKUAT. His research interests include Hybrid Control Systems, Real-Time Control, Microgrid Control, and Renewable Energy Development. He can be contacted at email: skamau@eng.jkuat.ac.ke.

Dr. Linus Alwal Aloo

Dr. Linus Alwal Aloo

Lecturer, EEE

Dr. Linus Alwal Aloo holds a BSc Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2013), Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (2018) and a Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering (2024) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, JKUAT (Kenya). His research interests are Microgrid Control, Artificial Intelligence Techniques, Control Systems Design, IoT-based Smart Systems, and Renewable Energy. Dr. Eng. Roy S. Orenge  received his BSc Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2011) from JKUAT (Kenya), a Master’s Degree (2014), and Ph.D. Degree (2020) in Electrical Engineering from Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology, and Innovation (PAUSTI). He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers’ Board of Kenya (EBK). His research areas are Electrical Power System Modeling and Design, Renewable Energy systems and grid integration, Rural Electrification and off-grid systems, and Electrical Machines. Launch of University Strategic Plan and Seminar by Chairman of Council

The University Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and several policies have been approved for implementation. Similarly, the JKUAT website has been revamped with a view to enhancing our visibility.

To celebrate these milestones, we are pleased to inform you that the Strategic Plan, University policies and the new website will be launched at a ceremony scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 25th June 2024 from 9:30 a.m in the Assembly Hall.

During the ceremony, the Chairman of Council, Dr. James M. Onsando will also give a seminar on ‘Commercialization of University Research and Innovations ‘.

Cougars Gain Kenya Rugby Union Championship Promotion

JKUAT Cougars secured their spot after beating Moi Arsonists 15-11 in a semi-final pairing of the Nationwide league. The team’s hard work and perseverance have paid off, as they now have the opportunity to go head-to-head against some of the best rugby teams in the country. The Cougars had been pushing for promotion since 2019, but their efforts were repeatedly thwarted....
