The department of Construction Management was founded in 2001 year at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya. This was after the university realized there was a niche for professionals with a practical and hands on approach to the rapid growing construction industry.

BRIEF HISTORY

The department of Construction Management was founded in 2001  year at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya. This was after the university realized there was a niche for professionals with a practical and hands on approach to the rapid growing construction industry. The department offers

  • Bachelor of Construction Management ,
  • Bachelor of Quantity Surveying,
  • Bachelor of Real Estate.
  • Masters of Construction Project Management ,
  • PhD in  Construction Project Management

within which period the student are trained virtually in all aspects of construction processes and management from building through services engineering to infrastructure services (roads, water, waste water, ICT etc) and quantifying of construction projects.

The training is done by a team of highly qualified professionals in the field of Architecture, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Property Valuation, Construction and Project Management among others.

Those who graduate from our program get full market placement within their first quarter after graduation and have successfully worked in the following areas:-

1.Development and establishment of new programmes

Development and review of the existing undergraduate courses

Bachelor of Construction Management 4 years course

The department has successfully enrolled PhD student in PhD in Construction Project Management That a new program in Real Estate is already  approved and  the first cohort of students are admitted  .

Establishment of Master of Project Construction Management (MPCM) and enrollment of students and end up graduating.

Facilitating for various guests speakers in difference field. IQSK,AAK ,ISK BORAQS

The department has successfully supervised various projects within the University through SABS Project Office and consultancy services

  1. Construction of Nairobi Industrial Park and Construction of Perimeter Wall
  2.  Construction of New Administration Block ,Construction of workshops, laboratory, lecture rooms and offices for the Pan Africa University Institute of Sciences, Technology And Innovations (PAUSTI)

Future Focus of the department The department is at final stage to be upgraded to a School, as it is spearheading to increase more courses which are beneficial to the society and the entire world to meet the dynamic need.

  • The proposed School name is “School of Construction & Real Estate Management”. This will comprise three departments ,
  • Each department will offer undergraduate programmes and the post graduate programmes.

  1. Review the syllabus every full cycle (four years) to remain relevant to the needs of the construction industry.
  2.   To improve staff competence and development through training, seminars, exchange programmes, workshops, research, colloquiums and continuous training programmes in order to enhance the quality of our teaching for our customers’’ needs.
  3. To meet the dynamic needs of construction industry through efficient and effective training, research and innovations.
  4. Encourage team work and team building through participatory and inclusive decision making processes that incorporate all the stakeholders.
