The Department of Landscape Architecture

Chair of Department
Welcome to the department of Landscape Architecture in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Our department is the oldest offering a bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture in Kenya and in the East and Central African region. Other degrees offered in the department of Landscape Architecture include Masters in Landscape Architecture (MLA), Masters in Environmental Planning and Development (MEPD) and Master of Sustainable Urban Development (MSUD). We also have three PhD programmes: Doctor of Philosophy in Landscape Architecture, Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Planning and Development and Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Design. Our teaching adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to find innovative solutions to challenges in our natural environment. A practical approach is adopted in our teaching to ensure in depth learning. Knowledge gained in theories taught is applied in the studio sessions where students undertake real life projects. The real-life projects act as a suitable base to generate pragmatic solutions to current landscape challenges. The Department is working to enhance collaborations with industry through the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and alumni organizations as well as collaborations with other institutions of higher learning both in and outside the continent. Our staff also continue to offer support to IFLA Africa and IFLA World in various capacities. CHAIR – LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
