Message from the Dean

Welcome to the School of Biomedical Sciences (SOBMS), a multi-disciplinary teaching and research School within the College of Health Sciences (COHES) at the University of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
SOBMS teaches over 3,000 students each year in science, health and medical courses across a broad range of disciplines including Biochemistry, Medical laboratory sciences (MLS), Radiography, Biotechnology and Medical microbiology.

The School provides teaching services to other schools within the college Viz. School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing and School of Public Health. Some courses are also taught to other schools and departments across the University.
Studying biomedical science provides a pathway to a diverse range of career opportunities in medicine, clinical and pharmaceutical occupations, biotechnology and discovery and translational research. Our innovative and high-quality teaching is based on the latest research to ensure you graduate with world-class skills, knowledge and understanding.
We have several postgraduate programs at MSc and PhD level. Our research aims to understand the structure and function of the human body, disease diagnosis and treatment. The school also contributes in research cutting across other programs that support good health and wellness e.g. crop science and food biotechnologies.
We collaborate with national and international organizations including KEMRI graduate school, ICIPE, ILRI, JICA, PAUSTI, SAJOREC among others.
We have core teaching facilities for histology, microscopy, molecular biology, and Biochemistry. Our students gain practical and clinical experience from various hospitals spread across the country.
The school has initiated plans to establish a center of excellence. The Center will act as the training, research and innovation hub for the school.
