
School of Biomedical sciences (SOBMS) held a school board consultative meeting on Wednesday 30th of April 2025 at iPIC from 9.00 Am. The meeting was attended by the Principal COHES; Dr. Reuben Thuo, Dean SOBMS; Prof. Johnson Kinyua, Director Grants; Prof. Naomi Maina and members of staff from the three departments (Department of Medical Laboratory sciences, Department of Biochemistry and Department of Medical Microbiology).
The agenda covered included; Promotions and recruitment, Update on academic program reviews by the CODs, Research, Collaboration and linkages, Presentation by DQA representative; Mr. Abel Rono and finally a presentation by director grants; Prof. Naomi Maina.
The Principal COHES, Dr. Thuo gave an opening speech and appreciated the School of Biomedical Sciences for giving support to the upcoming schools in the College. He also emphasized that SOBMS had a rich human resource and that members have been responding positively when called upon to help.
The CODs from the three departments reported that curriculum review was in progress in compliance with the new curriculum; Competency Based Education (CBE). It was also reported that Medical Laboratory department and Medical microbiology department were understaffed in terms of lecturers and the technical staff. The Dean, Prof. Johnson Kinyua promised to push for the recruitment of technical and the academic staff.

Prof. Mutinda Kyama gave a presentation on Research, Collaboration and linkages. He gave a list of the MOUs that we have a school with various institutions. He also emphasized the need of having collaborations and expanding our network as a school.

The guest speaker Prof. Naomi also gave an outline on the procedure and requirements of grant applications and also on how to win grants. Members were urged to be pro-active and apply for the grants which are normally shared monthly via staff emails.
