The Department of Construction Management under the School of Architecture and Building Sciences (SABS), in collaboration with the Integrated Construction Management Students Organization (ICOMSO), hosted a farewell dinner for its final-year students on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the SkyView Opal Hotel.
The event brought together students, faculty members, alumni, and industry stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class and wish them success as they prepare to embark on their professional careers.
Speaking during the farewell dinner, the Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Qs. Adeline M. Dindi congratulated the Class of 2026 for successfully completing their studies and encouraged them to carry the same determination into their professional careers.
Reflecting on her own academic journey, Dr. Dindi shared a lesson from her PhD studies.
“During my PhD studies, I came across a saying that a good PhD is a finished PhD. There is great value in seeing something through to completion. You have done that with your studies; now apply the same commitment to the projects and responsibilities you undertake in your professional lives,” the chair of department said.
Dr. Dindi also emphasized the importance of developing strong interpersonal skills and professional networks as key ingredients for career success. She later invited the graduates to enjoy the dinner organized in their honor and celebrate the milestone with their peers and mentors.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Phillip Macharia of Knight Frank Property Managers encouraged the graduates to join professional bodies and pursue their ambitions with confidence. He challenged them to dream big and embrace opportunities for growth.
The CEO of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), Mr. Peter Biwott, urged the students to step outside their comfort zones and avoid limiting themselves to familiar paths. He encouraged them to pursue further studies, broaden their professional horizons, and take advantage of opportunities available through ISK.
Representing the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK), Ms. Qs. Cynthia Mutaku congratulated the graduates on completing their studies and invited them to join the Young Quantity Surveyors Programme. She also emphasized the importance of networking in building successful careers.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr. Peter Githinji, the outgoing ICOMSO Chairperson, expressed gratitude to the Department for its support throughout their academic journey. He later led the outgoing student leadership in handing over office to the incoming team.
The event also marked the launch of the Department’s student awards programme, through which top-performing students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. The initiative is expected to become an annual tradition.
The farewell dinner was supported by key stakeholders in the construction industry, including the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS), the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK), Alliance Realtors Ltd, Babuo Builders, BECS Consultancy, Pleng Ltd, and JKUAT lecturers.
