What is NeDMEV?
The Network for Zero-defect and Zero-waste Digital Manufacturing (DM) for Electric Vehicles’ Components (NeDMEV) partnership is an initiative to upskill African postgraduate students in practical application of digital manufacturing (DM) processes for defect- and waste-free production, which is important in mitigating climate change. The goal is to drive the transformation of African economies by promoting a knowledge-based society while collaboratively training a critical mass of DM engineers & technologists.

What is the eligibility criteria for a Masters/PhD scholarship?
- Must be a national and/ or resident of an eligible country.
- At the time of the application for a scholarship, be registered/admitted in their final year or have obtained their most recent degree (or equivalent) from:
a)one of the higher education institutions included in the partnership (Target Group 1); or
b)a higher education institution not included in the partnership but established in an eligible country (Target Group 2)
3. Have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction in the host institution.

What happens after I have submitted my application?
The Coordination Office will verify all applications and will invalidate those that do not comply with the eligibility criteria established by the programme, the partnership and the host institution. Eligible applications will be reviewed by panels comprising expert academics from each partner HEIs and associate partners. The panels will report to the NeDMEV Selection Committee for final selection. The Coordinating Office will communicate the outcome of the application by email.
Are there additional requirements for admission to the host institution once I accept the scholarship?
Each host institution has different requirements for admission. Once you accept the scholarship, you are required to liiase with the local coordinator about the requirements for admission to the institution.
What is the financial support of the scholarship?
The scholarship will cover:
- Roundtrip flight ticket and visa costs
- Participation costs such as tuition fees, registration fees and service fees where applicable
- Insurance (health, accident, travel)
- Settling-in allowance
- Monthly subsistence allowance
- Research costs associated with student mobility of 10 months or longer
Can the scholarship period be extended?
No. The scholarship period for PhD is strictly 36 months and Masters is 24 months.
Is there any funding for special needs?
There is allocation for special needs which will be managed centrally by the Coordination institution. Contribution for special needs are eligible for mobility of a scholarship holder with disabilities whose long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments are certified by a competent national authority and of such nature that their participation in the action would not be possible without the special needs items or services.
How will the project protect my personal data?
All submitted applications will be stored as read-only documents in a protected database. The legal requirements of the partner universities concerning the manipulation of personal data will be observed and the information submitted online will remain confidential. The data will only be accessed by authorised persons at the host institutions and at the Coordination Office. Members of the Selection Committee will have confidential access to the data.
Is there any age limit for those interested in applying for the mobility scholarship?
There is no age limit.
