Prof. Njonge Reappointed to KMFRI Board – Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology

*Prof. Francis Njonge, Director, JKUAT graduate school has been reappointed to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI).*

Prof. Francis Njonge has been reappointed to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), effective May 2025. His reappointment marks a significant milestone in his ongoing contributions to national research, science policy, and innovation leadership.

An Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences and the Director of the Graduate School at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Prof. Njonge described the appointment as “a strong vote of confidence and a reflection of dedication, consistent performance, and a shared vision in advancing science and innovation for national development.”

Reflecting on his service, Prof. Njonge highlighted the value of the board role in bridging research and academia. “Being part of the KMFRI Board has not only strengthened the institute’s research agenda but has also opened doors for academic collaboration, particularly in the co-supervision of graduate students. This has deepened the integration between academic training and national research priorities,” he said.

In his capacity as Director of the Graduate School, Prof. Njonge emphasized the synergy between his roles at JKUAT and KMFRI, noting that direct engagement with national research initiatives enriches student mentorship and enhances the real-world impact of scholarly work.

JKUAT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, lauded Prof. Njonge’s reappointment, calling it both a personal achievement and a reflection of the university’s broader contribution to national development.
