There was palpable optimism as thousands of students streamed to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology for the September 2024 intake, Monday August 26, 2024. Nearly 10,000 freshmen are expected to register for studies at different levels across the five colleges at the university.

The students, most of who set foot in JKUAT for the first time, expressed delight at being admitted to JKUAT, which is now ranked among the top public universities in Kenya and the region. JKUAT offers an array of academic programmes in key disciplines covering Agriculture, Engineering, Technology, Built Environment, Enterprise Development, Law, and the Social, Health, Pure and Applied Sciences.

At hand to receive and welcome the young learners to JKUAT was Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi who told the students and their accompanying parents that they made the right choice in joining JKUAT.

“We have an enabling learning environment where we implement industry driven academic programmes. We have what it takes to produce champions of innovation,” Prof. Ngumi said.

The vice chancellor encouraged the new students to quickly settle in, acclimatize themselves with the university routine and prioritise learning to achieve best results at the end of their study.

Ndung’u Jephitha Wathiru, who has been admitted to pursue a bachelors degree in telecommunications engineering expressed his happiness to join JKUAT, noting that his education would enable him to secure his future.

One of the parents, Alfayo Orwa whose son, Ronnie Wadugu, has been admitted to study geomatic engineering said he was expecting the best from JKUAT for his son.

“This university has a history as a centre of excellence especially in engineering. I know that my son will do well here,” Orwa said.

Prof. Ngumi was accompanied by Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, the Registrar Academic Affairs in the meet-the-students’ session.

The students will undergo a weeklong orientation before classes begin on Monday, September 2, 2024.
