
Prof. Anthony Waititu Gichuhi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences (STACS), has been re-elected as Dean of the School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences for another two-year term. He was elected unopposed during the election held on November 22, 2024, in the Old Boardroom at JKUAT.
In expressing his gratitude, Prof. Waititu thanked the management for granting him another opportunity to serve in this important role. With immense humility, he shared that he was honored to be entrusted with the Deanship, a role that he considers both a personal milestone and a celebration of the values the school upholds: excellence, collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge.
“First and foremost, I want to thank all of you who have supported and believed in me. Your confidence strengthens my resolve to serve this institution with unwavering dedication. The exchange of ideas and our shared vision for the School of Mathematics exemplify the very essence of academia healthy competition grounded in mutual respect,” Prof. Waititu said.
Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, Registrar of Academic Affairs, congratulated Prof. Waititu on his re-election, acknowledging the trust and confidence his colleagues have in his leadership.
“This is a well-deserved victory. Your election reflects the trust your colleagues have in your vision, leadership, and ability to

guide the School of Mathematics toward an even brighter future,” Dr. Wanyama noted.
He also encouraged Prof. Waititu to continue advancing his vision for the school, prioritizing cutting-edge research, and ensuring that faculty and students remain at the forefront of innovation.
“The School of Mathematics is a cornerstone of this university, contributing significantly to our academic reputation, pioneering research, and the development of critical skills essential in today’s world. Under your leadership, I am confident the school will continue to thrive and set new benchmarks of excellence,” stated Dr. Wanyama.
Prof. Waititu is a member of the Kenya National Statistical Society and holds a Ph.D. from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. He is a JKUAT alumnus, having earned a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Additionally, Prof. Waititu serves as the Chairman of the JKUAT Hackathon team, which emerged as the best at the 2024 Inter-Varsity Artificial Intelligence Hackathon.
