Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will host Her Excellency, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, during a high-level state visit that will mark a new chapter in international collaboration on climate innovation and technology.

The visit scheduled to take place at Juja Main Campus on Monday, June 2, 2025, will culminate in the commissioning of The Conduit, a cutting-edge Climate Intelligence Hub jointly developed by JHUB Africa and Slovenia’s SPACE-SI (Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies).

JHUB Africa is an innovation and technology hub based at JKUAT, dedicated to nurturing youth-driven solutions in areas such as smart agriculture, climate action, and emerging digital technologies. It serves as a bridge between academic research and practical, scalable solutions for the African continent.

The facility will serve as a regional platform for climate data analysis, digital modelling, and environmental decision-making, with particular emphasis on transboundary water governance and climate resilience.

In anticipation of the visit, President Pirc Musar responded warmly to a LinkedIn post welcoming her to JKUAT, writing, “Looking forward to the visit,” a gesture that has highlighted the growing ties between Kenya and Slovenia.

Commenting on the visit to JKUAT, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, described the upcoming event as an important milestone towards expanding the university’s global footprint in science, technology, and climate action.

“We are deeply honoured to welcome Her Excellency, President Pirc Musar to JKUAT. This visit is a powerful affirmation of international partnerships in addressing complex global challenges. Through initiatives such as The Conduit, we are not only generating knowledge but also translating it into actionable solutions for communities, governments and the planet,” said Prof. Ngumi.

The Slovenian President will also engage university leadership, researchers and students during a panel discussion themed: “One Climate, One Future,” that will bring together interdisciplinary experts to explore sustainable and inclusive approaches to environmental management.
