NIBS Benchmarks on JKUAT’s e-Learning Platform

Director, SODel, Prof. Rebecca Waihenya explains the dynamics of e-learning to NIBs staff

A team from the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) visited JKUAT on June 13, 2023 to benchmark on the university’s e-learning platform.

Among the features that makes the system attractive is its ability to deliver a credible examination process while handling a large student population.

The NIBS team was keen to familiarize itself with the best technologies deployed for delivering the e-learning model and its guidelines as well as learn about the online examination process and policies.

While welcoming the team, the Director, SODeL, Prof. Rebbecca Waihenya said e-learning has provided institutions of higher learning a chance of making impact on a grander scale.

“As institutions of higher learning we need to conform and embrace to this new learning model to ensure we make an impact not only locally but internationally. E-learning also offers great collaboration and opportunities for students and teachers alike,” Prof. Waihenya stated.

She further said that because JKUAT is a name synonymous with quality, SODeL has been at the forefront of making sure that quality is maintained on its online platform.

On his part, NIBS e-learning coordinator, Mr. Joseph Marwa thanked SODeL fraternity for the opportunity to view their facilities and interact with its personnel, noting, the discussions were extremely instructive on e-learning and how the institute might leverage on it.

NIBS ICT manager, Mr. Allan Kauma said, over the years, their platform has been experiencing challenges due to the large number of students that use the online platform which prompted their visit to JKUAT.

“This visit has been an eye opener on areas as an institute we can improve our online platform. We hope we can now implement a new module platform for e-learning that will address the issues we have been facing”, Mr. Kauma observed.

The NIBS’s visit is one among many made to JKUAT by institutions of higher learning on benchmarking on the online platform, including Egerton University and Nyandarua Polytechnic among others.
