The new German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Director in Kenya Dr. Dorothee Weyler has commended Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology for the strong collaborative initiatives jointly implemented with DAAD over the years.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, on Monday September 2, 2024, Dr. Dorothee Weyler noted that JKUAT had been instrumental in driving a number of DAAD sponsored projects, making the institution a valuable partner in Kenya.
The official said that implementation of the Erasmus+ programme covering the 2021-2027 period opens opportunity for Europe to work closely with African countries in fostering mobility and exchanges within the academic and research space.
Dr. Weyler called on JKUAT to actively participate in the existing exchange programs given the valuable experience Juja-based university has consolidated in promoting practical and impactful cooperation with DAAD over the years.
Prof. Victoria Ngumi appreciated the support of DAAD which has significantly boosted staff capacity through targeted trainings and capacity building initiatives. The vice chancellor added that JKUAT was open to additional partnerships with DAAD under the leadership of Dr. Dorothee Weyler.
Prof. Ngumi pointed out JKUAT’s desire to champion more collaboration that would impact lives support Kenyan development through priority areas including agriculture, health, climate change, and digital inclusion.
Among the current projects supported by DAAD in JKUAT include the SEED Project and the Sustain AM (Additive Manufacturing) that aims to explore the potential of bio-based materials in additive manufacturing, aligning with global sustainability goals and fostering international collaboration in technological innovation.
Dr. Dorothee Weyler was accompanied to JKUAT by Ms Margaret Kirai- Deputy Director, DAAD Office in Kenya.
