Moi University Explore Innovations in Horticulture at JKUAT

Moi University Management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kosgey and Council Chair, Dr. Humphrey Njuguna together with senior university officials, visited Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Tuesday, May 28, 2024 to enhance agricultural education and innovation between the two institutions.

The purpose of the visit was to learn and exchange ideas on advancements in horticulture and related cutting-edge research and innovation outputs.

The Moi University team was warmly welcomed by JKUAT’ Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi and Council Chair, Dr. Dr. Micah Onsando who underscored JKUAT’s commitment to foster agricultural innovation and sustainability.

Both universities expressed a keen interest to establish a partnership to share knowledge and resources, aiming to elevate the standards of agricultural education and research in Kenya.

set-ups and greenhouses at JKUAT Enterprises Limited (JKUATES) as well as the Institute of Biotechnology Research (IBR) where they were shown introduced various tissue culture banana varieties.

Moi University officials acknowledged the impressive technological strides and advancements made by JKUAT over the years and expressed their desire to integrate some of the innovations into their own programmes and income generating centres.

The visit was a significant move towards forging stronger inter-university collaboration which is expected to impact the agricultural sector in Kenya.

By leveraging their strengths, Moi University and JKUAT aim to contribute to the Kenya’s agricultural development and sustainability goals.
