Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) continues to strengthen its premier reputation in higher education according to the 2025 EduRank university rankings.
JKUAT has secured the third position among Kenyan universities, 50th in Africa, and 2,613th globally. The University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University hold the first and second positions, respectively.
EduRank’s methodology uses a broad range of metrics to assess universities worldwide with rankings based on three primary indicators: research performance (45%), non-academic prominence (45%), and alumni score (10%).
Research performance focuses on quality and impact of scientific publications while non-academic prominence shines a spotlight on the university’s reputation beyond academia by analyzing backlinks from other websites. Alumni score reviews public recognition of university’s graduates and affiliates.
JKUAT has earned rave reviews across various academic disciplines in the national rankings. The university holds the second (2nd) position in Business, Mathematics, Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Economics. It ranks third (3rd) in Biology and Environmental Sciences and fourth (4th) in Medicine, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences.
Commenting on the latest rankings, JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi expressed pride in the university’s steady progress in academic and research visibility and reaffirmed its commitment to achieving greater heights.
“These rankings are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and excellence that define JKUAT. Our faculty, researchers, and students continue to push boundaries in innovation and academic rigor to position JKUAT as a premier institution in Kenya’s higher education landscape,” said Prof. Ngumi.
She further emphasized that while the recognition is a great achievement, there is still work to be done to elevate JKUAT’s standing both in Africa and globally.
“Our goal is not just to maintain our position but to rise even higher, both continentally and globally. We will continue investing in cutting edge research, strengthening industry partnerships, and fostering a dynamic learning environment to ensure that JKUAT competes with the very best worldwide,” Prof. Ngumi added.
