Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Enterprises (JKUATES) Ltd in collaboration with Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) is among the over 35 exhibitors from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry taking part at the Dubai 2020 Expo, currently underway in the United Arab Emirates.
JKUATES, the marketing arm of the Juja-based Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has put on display, three of their new specialty tea products, namely purple, green and black tea. The exhibition which will run for six months, commenced today, October 1, 2021 and will end March 31, 2022.
The opportunity to display the products came through the JKUATES E-commerce department, which, among others, spearheads the export of avocados as well as help in marketing local farmers’ various plant seedlings supplies.
According to Shirleen Muriuki of JKUATES Marketing Department, processed tea is sourced from the farmers, then it is value added through branding and packaging before availing it to the market.
She said the name of the special tea (Camelia), is derived from the scientific name for tea which is currently available in three types; black, purple and green tea. Miss. Muriuki further revealed that both purple and green tea contain immense health benefits critical in reducing the risks of getting lifestyle diseases such as diabetes.
“Purple tea has catechins which reduce body fat, thus help in weight loss as well as containing anti-aging compounds which even out the skin tone. It is a key ingredient in several skincare products. The green tea contains Polyphenols which guards against the Alzheimer’s disease thus protect the brain especially as one gets older. It also lowers cholesterol levels in the body, and in turn, reduce the risks of high blood pressure”, she asserted.
Miss. Muriuki stated that the three products are also available through www.Teasoko.com, a platform hosted by JKUATES where other products are also available for purchase by the public.
The Dubai 2020 Expo, Miss. Muriuki pointed out, is the second exhibition for the product after earlier participating during the Kenya Expo (2019) held at KICC grounds, Nairobi.
