JKUAT Welcomes Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences Partnership

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi  receives a gift from the HSWT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carsten Lorz after the talks.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University (HSWT) of Applied Sciences of Germany, have held discussions aimed at fostering international academic collaboration.

The two institutions are exploring opportunities for partnership in research, academic exchanges, and development of academic programs, with a focus on enhancing their global footprint and visibility.

This was discussed during a courtesy call on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 paid on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi by HSWT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carsten Lorz.

Prof. Ngumi said that JKUAT was keen to explore avenues of collaboration with HSWT, particularly in the areas of research and virtual learning. The Vice Chancellor highlighted the potential for both institutions in leveraging their strengths and technology to foster innovative learning solutions and academic advancements.

“It is important that both institutions work together to harness their collective expertise, ensuring the successful integration of cutting-edge research and virtual learning platforms. This collaboration will not only enhance the academic experience but also contribute to the growth of global knowledge and innovation,” said Prof. Ngumi.

Echoing her sentiments, Prof. Lorz noted that both institutions have immense potential to create impactful synergies, highlighting the unique strengths each brings to the table in fostering innovation, academic growth, and cross-cultural exchange.

“HSWT is keen on strengthening its focus on applied sciences, coupled with JKUAT’s expertise in technology and innovation, I believe we can create a dynamic partnership that will drive impactful research and academic development,” said Prof. Lorz.

The visit, he added, was informed by the strategic push to expand HSWT’s reach to the African continent, particularly by partnering with like-minded institutions that share similar values and academic goals.

Prior to the courtesy call meeting, the HSWT delegation engaged in constructive discussions with researchers from various departments to explore collaboration in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer across topics such as agriculture, agroforestry, bioeconomy, agribusiness and entrepreneurship, digitalization, food and food technology, and renewable energy.
