Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology has unveiled a new academic block for the College of Engineering and Technology (COETEC).

The facility, contracted to JKUAT Enterprises Limited (JKUATES), was formally handed over to the University Council May 13, 2026, marking a major milestone in the university’s broader strategy of modernizing infrastructure to support quality teaching, research, innovation, and service delivery.

The development comes at a time when JKUAT continues to gain national recognition for engineering excellence, recently emerging as the winner of the prestigious Excellence in Engineering Education Award at the 2026 Engineering Partnerships Convention (EPC) in Mombasa.

The Chairman of the JKUAT Council, Dr. James Micah Onsando, said the Council was pleased to receive the fully completed facility, commending the quality of workmanship and describing the project as a significant addition to the university’s growing infrastructure development agenda.

He lauded Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, for her proactive leadership in spearheading infrastructure development projects aimed at improving the university’s learning and working environment.

Dr. Onsando noted that the successful completion of the project reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and creating facilities capable of supporting academic excellence, innovation, and research growth.

Prof. Ngumi said the new block will serve as the administrative and academic nerve centre for the College by improving coordination of academic activities, creating a more conducive working environment for staff, and enhancing the overall learning experience for students within one of JKUAT’s flagship colleges.

She noted that the facility comes at a critical time when the university is experiencing growth in student enrolment, research programmes, and industry collaborations, all of which require expanded and modern infrastructure support.

The Vice Chancellor further commended JKUATES for successfully delivering the project, noting that the university will continue leveraging internal expertise and innovation in implementing strategic development projects across its campuses.
