Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Canadian based University of Windsor (UOW) held consultative talks to explore potential areas of academic and research collaboration.
The discussions centered on joint research initiatives and student and faculty exchange programs, with the aim of fostering innovation, promoting knowledge sharing, and strengthening capacity between the two institutions.
The two universities have expressed a strong interest in establishing a mutually beneficial partnership that leverages their respective strengths to address global challenges through joint efforts.
Welcoming the delegation on Monday, April 7, 2025, the Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology (COETEC), Dr. Eng. Hiram Ndiritu, affirmed JKUAT’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that enhance academic excellence, drive innovation, and support the university’s research and technological advancement agenda.
“The university is an established producer of engineering graduates who are not only academically competent but also equipped with practical skills to meet industry needs. We believe that through this collaboration, we can further enrich our training programs and provide our students and faculty with broader global exposure,” said Dr. Ndiritu.
Dr. Ndiritu further emphasized that international collaboration, an area the university’s management is keen on, is vital for improving the quality of education and research.
He noted that partnerships with institutions like the University of Windsor offer valuable opportunities to tap into global networks, share resources, and co-develop solutions to pressing technological and societal challenges.
Dr. Chris Busch, Associate Vice President for Enrolment Management and Senior International Officer at UOW, echoed the sentiment, noting that the two institutions could leverage their complementary strengths to foster impactful research, enhance student mobility, and promote cross-cultural academic experiences.
“JKUAT has established itself as a strong institution in science, technology, and engineering, and its commitment to academic excellence makes it an ideal partner for international collaboration,” said Dr. Busch.
Prof. Bill Van Heyst, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Windsor, noted that with UOW’s strong foundation in engineering, particularly in automotive engineering, the university is well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to joint initiatives with JKUAT.
He highlighted the potential for collaborative projects that not only advance innovation and research but also offer practical learning experiences for staff and students from both institutions.
The meeting was also addressed by the Principal, College of Human Resource Development (COHRED), Prof. Florence Mwaura, Dr. Allan Mugambi and the Regional Recruitment Advisor- East Africa at UOW, Ms. Linda Kwamboka.
