JKUAT to Host Kenyan Universities Sporting Extravaganza

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will host the 2021 edition of the Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) National Playoffs.

The annual event, which is scheduled to take place between August 13 -15, 2021, will bring together Universities and University Colleges affiliated to KUSA for a sporting extravaganza in various sporting disciplines such as badminton, basketball, handball, hockey, netball, rugby 7s, soccer, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

This year’s event, whose theme is ‘Sports for Health and Academic Excellence’, seeks to promote interaction among students within universities, encourage professional and personal growth, while also creating awareness for health safety in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.

Excitement is building up ahead of the tournament opener on Friday, August 13, 2021 where the stage is already set for firecracker matches as two best universities in every region in the country will be battling it out for gold medals in different sporting activities.

With preparations in earnest, JKUAT sportsmen and women are optimistic about the University’s chances of winning the tournament with home ground advantage playing a big role.

The JKUAT Director of Sports and Games, Dr. Waweru Kamaku, is upbeat about JKUAT’s chances at the tournament saying the “University has the best chances of winning the major tournament.”

The director said JKUAT has strong teams that are buoyed with confidence given that some of the players also turn up for national assignments in various sporting disciplines such as rugby, handball and soccer.

This year’s KUSA games will be conducted under strict adherence of Covid -19 health and safety measures.
