JKUAT Students Win Mitsubishi Scholarships

Ten students pursuing Bachelor of Commerce degree programme in the College of Human Resource Development at JKUAT have been awarded scholarships worth Kshs. 64,954 each by the Japan based Mitsubishi Corporation.

The scholarships were awarded to needy students who have demonstrated consistent record of academic excellence in their studies.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony held at the University, Thursday, January 20, 2022, the General Manager, Mitsubishi Corporation, Nairobi Liaison Office, Mr. Katsutoshi Nishi, said, the scholarship is a strategic initiative to spur global development through education.

“We are happy to offer the scholarship and we hope that you can drive development agenda after your education,” said Mr. Nishi.

Noting that it is the first time the scholarship has been offered to JKUAT students, Mr. Nishi stated that his corporation is open to offering more scholarships in future.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Robert Kinyua, urged the students to continue standing out in their academics in order to continue receiving rare opportunities.

Prof. Kinyua further urged the students to take full advantage of the scholarship to become global citizens, and thanked Mitsubishi Corporation for sponsoring the students.

He said, the scholarship support will ensure the students pursue learning smoothly, and confirmed that the money had already been credited to the University’s school fees account.

Rahab Nyambura, one of the beneficiaries of the scholarship, expressed her gratitude to Mitsubishi Corporation. “It is a great opportunity that none of us expected and it is really overwhelming news,” she said.

Nyambura further said, the scholarship support is a motivation to work harder in order to repay the faith bestowed on them by the sponsors.
