Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in collaboration with United States-based TRIMBLE Company, organized a workshop for students pursuing Landscape  Architecture to enhance their practical skills in sketching and proficiency in the field of three-dimensional modeling.

The workshop, facilitated by the Department of Landscape Architecture, placed emphasis on the conversion of hand-drawn sketches into scanned soft copies and subsequently printing of the drawings in three-dimensional format (3D).

The students were trained using Sketch App, a leading 3D software intended for architectural design modeling, developed by TRIMBLE Company.

Speaking during the workshop on May 30, 2023, the Chairperson of Landscape and Architecture Department, Dr. Dennis Karanja said the workshop seeks to help students acquire and implement new sketching and drawing techniques, thereby improving the quality of their work.

The acquired skills, he added, will help students establish themselves as competent landscape and architecture professionals.

Seventy (70) students from the Landscape and Architectural Department who participated in the workshop, expressed their appreciation for being exposed to the globally renowned experts.

Jacinta Margaret, a fourth-year student, expressed her delight at participating in the workshop. “I have thoroughly enjoyed learning new sketching methods. The workshop has changed my attitude towards sketching in a positive way.”

John Cameron, a Landscape Architecture Lecturer from the University of Georgia, emphasized the significance of the workshop, explaining that it will equip students with critical landscape architecture skills.

“After this training, the students will be better equipped to utilize the key softwares and work with 3D graphics,” Mr. Cameron concluded.
