Two third-year students at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Phanuel Ojiambo and Blessing Achola, have been elected to the top leadership positions of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Students Association (KeMeLSA). The elections were held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the University of Nairobi.

Phanuel Ojiambo was elected the President of KeMeLSA, while Blessing Achola as the Director of the Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE) during the elections that brought together Medical Laboratory Science student representatives from 16 universities across the country.

Prior to his election, Ojiambo held several leadership positions within the JKUAT Medical Laboratory Students Association (JKULSA), serving as Media and Publicity Director and later as President. He concurrently served as Finance Director of KeMeLSA, demonstrating a strong track record in student leadership and governance.

As President, Ojiambo will provide overall leadership to the Association, guiding its vision, strategic direction and day-to-day operations. He will chair key governance structures, including the Executive Committee and National Governing Council, represent the Association in official engagements, and oversee the implementation of programmes, policies, and strategic plans, while ensuring adherence to the Association’s constitution.

Blessing, as Director of SCORE, will spearhead initiatives aimed at strengthening student engagement in research.  Her responsibilities include promoting accessible research opportunities, fostering mentorship pathways, building partnerships with research institutions, and organizing platforms such as webinars, camps, and conferences to enhance students’ research skills and collaboration networks.

Founded in 2021, KeMeLSA has been instrumental in advancing academic excellence, professional development, and collaboration among training institutions, while effectively representing Medical Laboratory Science students nationwide.

This year’s election marked the association’s third election cycle. Phanuel Ojiambo and Blessing Achola will serve for the 2026/2027 term.
