The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Management organized a one-day financial literacy program for staff on Thursday, 17th April 2026.
Held under the theme “Master Your Money, Master Your Future,” the event was organized in collaboration with the Kasneb Foundation and the ICEA Lions Group. The aim of the program was to equip staff with essential knowledge on financial management and investment strategies.
In his remarks, Prof. Bernard Ikua, Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration and Finance, encouraged staff to cultivate a culture of investment, regardless of one’s income level, and in line with the principles of the Competency-Based Education. He emphasized that consistent and disciplined saving and investment are key to long-term financial stability.
Dr. Rose Githu, Registrar in charge of Administration and Finance, reminded participants that financial resources are often limited and stressed the importance of making informed decisions when planning and investing money.

The session was moderated by Dr. Tabitha Nasieku, a Certified Investment and Financial Analyst and a Senior Lecturer at JKUAT’s School of Human Resource Development, who challenged staff to reflect on practical ways of making their income sufficient. She also underscored the importance of instilling sound financial habits in children from an early age.
Speaking during the session, Ms. Kanza Musyoka, General Manager for Business Development and Client Relations at ICEA Lion Group, emphasized the importance of proper financial planning and prudent spending. Ms. Jacqueline Ochieng, Head of Research and Partnerships, highlighted the power of compound interest, noting that the best time to invest is now and that success in investing depends more on strategy than the amount invested.
Other representatives from ICEA Lion Group included, Ms. Cathereen Odongo, Head of Alternative Distribution Channels; Mr. Radcliffe Nyamai, Business Development Manager; and Ms. Christine Mutahi, General Manager (Corporate Business).
On her part, CPA Jecinta Moraa, Head of the Kasneb Foundation, urged staff to pursue professional financial qualifications, invest in side businesses, and adopt effective debt management strategies. Other representatives from the Kasneb Foundation included Ms. Winnie Mugambi, Finance and Revenue Officer; Mr. Jerey Mugambi, Administrative Officer; and Ms. Pauline Owidh, Senior Officer, Business Development.
