
The JKUAT Society of Engineering Students (SES) organized a significant event to mark World International Engineering Day on 7th March 2025. The event aimed to celebrate the contributions of engineers worldwide and highlight the vital role engineering plays in solving global challenges.
Under the theme “Engineering a Sustainable Resilient Future Against Climate Change,” the event brought together a diverse mix of engineering students from JKUAT and other universities, as well as key movers and shakers in the engineering sector.
The forum featured engaging discussions, presentations from industry professionals, and hands-on activities designed to inspire students and foster collaboration within the engineering community. It also raised awareness about the critical role engineering plays in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In a speech to the engineering students, Mrs. Faith Waraki, founder and lead navigator of the Youth in STEME-Mobility Network Kenya, a passionate leader and advocate for STEM, E-Mobility, and climate action, urged the students to step up and use their knowledge and skills to make a tangible impact in their communities.
Mrs. Waraki also encouraged the students to explore and learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI), highlighting its potential to enhance both their academic performance and their ability to contribute to climate solutions. She emphasized that acquiring AI skills would not only empower them in their studies but also equip them with valuable tools to tackle global challenges.

“I would also encourage you, as engineering students, to engage in climate action and find innovative climate solutions. Stay committed to your work, and always have confidence in your abilities,” Mrs. Waraki stated.
Dr. Eng. Hiram Nderitu, Patron of JKUAT SES and Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology (COETEC), congratulated the student society for their hard work and commitment, particularly in mentoring high school students on engineering courses.
He lauded the initiative saying it not only served as an effective form of marketing for the engineering field but also contributed to the sustainability of engineering courses.
Eng. Ogallo Robert, a JKUAT alumnus and Secretary of Geotech Kenya, urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them as future engineers. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning, staying current with industry trends, and developing a strong network of professionals.
“We, as engineers, are the people who bridge the gap between innovation and reality. Whether we are designing sustainable infrastructure, developing technology, or creating solutions to challenges affecting our communities, we play an important role in shaping the future. Today, we not only celebrate our technical skills but also the creativity and commitment,” said Eng. Ogallo.
