Three law students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Karen Campus have emerged among the top performers in the prestigious Nuremberg Moot Competition following an outstanding performance in their written submissions.

Sewe James Philip Goro, Dennis Kaboro, and Mutua Kelvin, all third-year law students, represented JKUAT in the highly competitive international online moot court competition held on April 7, 2026.  They are now set to proceed to the oral rounds in Germany scheduled for July 22 – 25 this year.

The Nuremberg Moot Competition is an international law contest that brings together universities from across the world to debate contemporary issues in international criminal law and human rights.

The competition is conducted in two phases: written phase and oral phase. Teams that rank among the top 40 following the evaluation of written submissions qualify for the oral rounds, which are held in Germany.

JKUAT is among only two Kenyan universities that qualified for this year’s oral rounds, further strengthening the University’s growing reputation in international moot competitions following its recent participation in the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Team lead, Sewe James Philip Goro said, the team is well prepared and ready for the challenge, noting that the competition has provided a valuable platform for sharpening advocacy, legal research, and oral litigation skills at the international level.

“I attribute this achievement to the team’s hard work and dedication throughout the writing process, and our cohesiveness was crucial to our success,” he said.

He further noted that preparations for the oral rounds in Germany are progressing well, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to perform strongly on the international stage.

“This is JKUAT’s first attempt at this competition, and we are confident that we will maintain our strong approach in preparation for the finals,” Sewe stated.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi, lauded the students’ achievement, saying it epitomises the University’s growing academic excellence, competitiveness, and commitment to nurturing globally competent legal professionals.

JKUAT students have continued to demonstrate strong performance in various regional and international moot competitions, reinforcing the  institution’s growing stature in legal training and advocacy.
