Dr. Tom Maina Kabau has been elected as the new Dean of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) School of Law at the Karen Campus, following an internal election held on Thursday, April 16.
The election marked a significant milestone for the School of Law, being the first deanship poll since its establishment. Dr. Kabau secured a decisive mandate, reflecting strong confidence from members of the academic community in his leadership and vision for the faculty.
Announcing the results, the Registrar of Academic Affairs, Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, confirmed that the election was conducted successfully, transparently, and in full compliance with the university’s electoral guidelines.
He congratulated Dr. Kabau on his election and commended the School of Law community for upholding integrity, professionalism, and participatory governance throughout the process.
“The level of engagement witnessed throughout this process reflects a vibrant academic community committed to inclusive governance. I urge all members of the School of Law to unite in support of the incoming dean as he undertakes the responsibility of steering the faculty forward,” said Dr.Wanyama.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Kabau expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to serve with inclusivity and dedication.
He pledged his commitment to strengthening academic excellence, fostering unity, and advancing the School of Law’s position as a leading center for legal education and research.
“This is a collective responsibility and a shared victory for the entire School of Law community. I am committed to working with all stakeholders to advance our academic mission and build a stronger institution,” said Dr. Kabau.
The outgoing dean, Dr. Stephen Aminga congratulated both candidates for conducting a peaceful and issue-based campaign, noting that the election process reflected the university’s commitment to democratic values and institutional integrity.
Dr. Elijah Oluoch, who also contested for the position, conceded defeat and pledged support for the incoming Dean.
“The election may be over, but our shared goal of progress continues. I fully support Dr. Kabau and wish him success in his new role,” he said.
Dr. Kabau is expected to assume office in the coming weeks, with attention now turning to how his leadership will shape the next phase of growth and development for the School of Law.
