Several researchers from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) have been recognized as the institution’s most impactful scientists in the AD Scientific Index 2025.

The ranking highlights top performers in four key categories: total citations, citations in the last five years, overall H-index, and five-year H-index. These indicators show how often a researcher’s work is referenced by others, demonstrating its impact and influence within the academic community. Having many citations and publishing widely in reputable journals is a clear sign of active research and global recognition.
In the total citations category, Prof. Kenneth Ngure leads the list, followed by Prof. Bancy Mati, Prof. Willy Muturi, Dr. Shem Kuyah, and Prof. Gregory Namusonge.
Notably, Prof. Bancy Mati stands out as the only woman among JKUAT’s top-ranked researchers, based on her outstanding contributions to water management research and her leadership in promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

For citations in the last five years, Prof. Ngure retains the top spot, with Dr. Kuyah, Prof. Muturi, Dr. John Kinyuru, and Prof. Namusonge completing the top five.
The H-index (total) which combines research productivity with impact features Prof. Ngure at the top followed by Prof. Muturi, Dr. Kinyuru, Prof. Daniel Sila, and Prof. Namusonge.

In the H-index (last five years), Prof. Ngure once again ranks first, with Dr. Kinyuru, Prof. Muturi, Prof. Willis Owino, and Prof. Sila rounding out the list.
The eight researchers excelled in their respective fields of specialization as follows: Prof. Kenneth Ngure (Medical and Health Sciences), Prof. Bancy Mati (Environmental Science and Engineering), Prof. Willy Muturi (Business and Management / Human Resource Management), Prof. Gregory Namusonge (Economics and Econometrics / Accounting and Finance), Prof. Daniel Sila, Prof. Willis Owino, and Dr. John Kinyuru (Food Science and Engineering), and Dr. Shem Kuyah (Agroforestry).

This impressive performance has been commended by JKUAT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi, who noted that the recognized researchers have continued to excel in the areas for which JKUAT is best known for – Agriculture and Engineering.

She also applauded the faculty excelling in the social sciences, which are domiciled at the College of Human Resource and Enterprise Development, an academic unit that consistently produces the largest number of graduates each year.
In addition, Prof. Ngumi commended the College of Health Sciences, noting that its researchers have been instrumental in advancing some of the country’s key health initiatives, including efforts to combat pandemics, support clinical trials, and strengthen public health systems.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Production and Extension Prof. Jackson Kwanza, also congratulated the researchers for their commitment to advancing JKUAT’s research mission.

“These rankings reaffirm JKUAT’s growing impact in the global research ecosystem. Our scholars continue to produce transformative knowledge that supports innovation and sustainable development,” said Prof. Kwanza.

The AD Scientific Index (Alper-Doger Scientific Index) evaluates researchers using Google Scholar data to assess individual and institutional research performance, offering valuable insight into scholarly productivity and global impact.
Beyond their academic output, these researchers have spearheaded donor-funded projects that have empowered postgraduate students to gain hands-on research experience and make meaningful contributions to global scholarship.
