The findings were presented during an External Stakeholders’ Validation Forum held on June 10, 2026, which brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, development partners, and the Juja community to review the University’s achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities.

The review indicated that the University has made considerable progress towards the realization of its strategic objectives, recording notable achievements across key performance indicators outlined in the Plan. These include policy, leadership and governance; research, innovation and extension; market-driven training; financial management and resource mobilization; and administration and operational services.

Based on the weighted assessment of the key result areas, the University attained an overall performance score of 94.5 per cent, reflecting steady implementation of its strategic priorities.

Key achievements realized during the review period included; strengthened governance and management systems, expanded academic and research programmes, enhanced digital transformation and service delivery, improved financial accountability, and increased stakeholder partnerships.

Speaking during the forum, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi noted that the University had recorded significant progress in the implementation of its Strategic Plan.

“We have made notable strides in governance, academic quality, research and innovation, digital transformation, financial management and strategic partnerships,” said Prof. Ngumi in a speech read on her behalf by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Robert Kinyua.

The Vice Chancellor also lauded the rigorous review process and thanked stakeholders for participating in the validation forum, noting that their input would be instrumental in strengthening implementation efforts and guiding the University’s future direction.

The Chair of Council, Dr. Micah Onsando, underscored the importance of the review findings, noting that the report provides valuable insights that will support informed decision-making and enhance the University’s pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, innovation and service delivery.

“This Strategic Plan was endorsed by the Council as a roadmap for guiding the University’s growth and development. The progress recorded so far demonstrate our collective commitment to achieving the goals we set out and positioning JKUAT as a globally competitive institution,” said Dr. Onsando.

The Chair of the Strategic Plan Committee, Dr. Esther Waiganjo, noted that the Plan has been a critical tool in guiding the University’s operations, monitoring performance, and aligning institutional activities with its long-term vision and objectives.

Dr. Waiganjo further observed that the mid-term review provided an opportunity to assess progress, identify emerging challenges, and realign strategies to ensure the successful achievement of the Plan’s targets.

Ms. Eunice Amlega from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), one of the external stakeholders, emphasized the importance of higher education institutions regularly reviewing their strategic plans to assess performance, strengthen accountability, and ensure their programmes remain responsive to the evolving needs of students, industry and society.

As the University enters the second half of the Strategic Plan implementation period, it remains committed to consolidating the gains made, addressing emerging challenges, and implementing stakeholder recommendations to achieve its strategic objectives.
