
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has received three electric motorcycles and related electric vehicle (EV) equipment from ARC Ride to strengthen training, research and innovation in sustainable mobility technologies.
ARC Ride is a Kenyan electric mobility company that designs and deploys electric motorcycles and charging solutions to accelerate the transition to clean, sustainable transport. Through its partnership with JKUAT, the company is supporting the development of industry-ready talent while fostering innovation and research in electric mobility.
The donation, facilitated through an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between JKUAT and ARC Ride, underscores the two institutions’ shared commitment to advancing electric mobility through collaborative research, practical training and innovation.
The electric motorcycles will support practical training and research by giving engineering students hands-on experience in electric mobility technologies, including battery systems, electric powertrains, diagnostics and maintenance.

Speaking during the handover of the equipment on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension (RPE), Prof. Jackson Kwanza, said the donation will enhance the University’s capacity to provide industry-relevant training and support research in electric mobility and sustainable transportation.
“At JKUAT, we are committed to equipping our students with industry-relevant skills through practical training, research and innovation. This donation will strengthen our capacity to prepare graduates for the evolving electric mobility sector,” said Prof. Kwanza.
He added that the partnership with ARC Ride demonstrates the importance of university-industry collaboration in advancing innovation, strengthening applied research and preparing graduates with the practical skills needed to drive the transition to sustainable mobility.
ARC Ride Head of Operations and Projects, Judith Otieng, said the partnership seeks to leverage the strengths of both institutions to advance electric mobility through research, innovation and skills development. She noted that the collaboration will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities while supporting the development of sustainable transport solutions.
Ms. Otieng observed that the demand for electric mobility solutions is steadily increasing, presenting significant opportunities for collaboration with JKUAT in training highly skilled engineers, advancing research and developing innovative technologies to support the sector’s growth.

Collaboration Committee member, Mr. Denis Koech lauded the growth of the partnership, noting that it has continued to create meaningful opportunities for student training, industry engagement and collaborative innovation in electric mobility.
Beyond the equipment donation, the partnership has also created internship opportunities for JKUAT students, with some successfully transitioning into full-time employment at ARC Ride after completing their industrial attachment.
One of the internship beneficiaries, Ms. Colleta Mwita, said the programme provided her with valuable practical experience, allowing her to apply classroom knowledge in an industry setting while enhancing her technical skills and understanding of electric mobility technologies.
The JKUAT Bachelor of Science in Mechatronic Engineering alumna, who completed a three-month internship before securing employment at ARC Ride, said her passion for motor vehicle assembly inspired her to pursue a career in the electric mobility sector.
She encouraged students to embrace internship opportunities, noting that they provide invaluable industry exposure, strengthen practical skills and can open doors to future employment.
The partnership is expected to expand opportunities for collaborative research, student internships and technology transfer, reinforcing JKUAT’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates while contributing to Kenya’s growing electric mobility ecosystem.
