The Vice Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), has appealed for government support to repair and maintain key access and internal roads within the university, as well as the graduation square.
During a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Roads and Transport, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, at his Nairobi office on Thursday, August 7, 2025, JKUAT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, Prof. Robert Kinyua.
Prof. Kinyua emphasized that a reliable road network is essential to the university’s smooth operations, safety, and conducive learning environment.
“The state of our internal roads affects mobility, accessibility, and even emergency response within the campus. Upgrading these roads will not only enhance safety but also create an enabling environment for teaching, research, and innovation,” he noted.
Eng. Mbugua commended JKUAT for proactively engaging the Ministry and assured the institution of his support. He affirmed that the Ministry will collaborate with the university to assess the road network and develop a phased maintenance plan, beginning with the most critical sections.
“We recognize that universities are hubs of national development, and proper infrastructure is integral to supporting their mandate. Our technical team will soon visit the campus to evaluate the scope of work required,” said the PS.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen the partnership. Prof. Kinyua extended an invitation to Eng. Mbugua to tour the university for further assessment on the state of the university.
