JKUAT Cougars clinched the Division Two Challenge Trophy at the 2025 Christie Sevens Tournament in Nairobi on 17th August after edging Kisumu RFC 19–10 in the final.

The two-day tournament brought together top rugby sides from across the country, with the Cougars proving their mettle after a mixed Day One. They beat MKU Nairobi 19–0, lost narrowly 12–19 to Kisumu, and drew 12–12 with Makueni RFC to qualify for the knockout stage.

On Day Two, they swept aside Administration Police 24–5 in the quarters, blanked TUM 19–0 in the semis, and sealed the trophy in style with revenge over Kisumu in the final.

Director of Sports, Dr. Waweru Kamaku, noted that the Cougars have shown resilience and character.

“Winning the Christie 7s Challenge Trophy is not just about lifting a title, it is about proving that JKUAT has the structures, talent and leadership to compete at the highest level. This is a proud moment for the university and a strong motivation to keep strengthening our sports programs,” said Dr. Kamaku.

Sports Officer, Hellen Ng’ethe, added that“This win shows the discipline and focus of our team. With Coach Smith Muhoya and Captain Davis Masinga, we are ready for the 15s season in November.”
