The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi, led the University Management Board (UMB) in congratulating JKUAT Karen Campus law students for their exemplary performance in national and international moot court competitions. The students recently qualified for the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition.
During a management meeting held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the students, accompanied by the Dean of the School of Law, Dr. Stephen Aminga, and Dr. Dennis Ndambo, Senior Lecturer and Moot Competition Coordinator, presented their awards to the University management.
Prof. Ngumi commended the students for their outstanding performance, noting that their achievements reflect JKUAT’s growing strength in legal training, advocacy, and global academic competitiveness.
“This is a testament to the dedication, discipline, and academic excellence of our students, as well as the strong mentorship and support provided by the University. Their success on such competitive platforms highlights JKUAT’s commitment to nurturing globally competent legal professionals,” the Vice Chancellor said.
With their achievements playing a key role in elevating the University’s global profile, Prof. Ngumi encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence, noting that their performance sets a benchmark for peers and reinforces JKUAT’s position as a leader in legal education and advocacy on the international stage.
The team delivered an outstanding performance, finishing runners-up in the highly competitive national contest held at Mount Kenya University Parklands Law Campus and African Nazarene University.
The students, Dennis Kaboro, Sewe James Phillip Goroh, Clarice Neema Naseka, Tatiana Bett Cherono, and Mike Marc Kipchirchir, all third-year students at JKUAT’s Karen Law Campus advanced to the global stage after ranking among the top performers in national rounds that attracted leading universities in one of the world’s most rigorous legal simulations.
Participating in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the first time, the team showcased exceptional written and oral advocacy skills, placing second overall for Best Memorial Submissions while several members ranked among the competition’s top oralists.
Meanwhile, another JKUAT team comprising Tracy Mbaya, John Charles, and Allan Mwangi competed in the National Qualifier Rounds for the Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition.
The trio emerged second runners-up in the national finals held virtually on 14–15 January 2026, earning qualification for the international rounds at Stetson University in Florida, USA.
Maureen Ndanu, Chair of the Moot Court team, highlighted the students’ dedication and teamwork.
“Competing at this level for the first time was both challenging and rewarding. Our hard work, preparation, and collaboration have paid off, and we are proud to represent JKUAT on the international stage,” she said.
In addition to overall placements, the teams received multiple accolades, including Best Memorial, Best Applicant Team, and Best Respondent Team.
