It is no longer idle talk when people say, “Data is information. Information is knowledge. And knowledge is power.” Organizations, institutions including governments across the world generate large volumes of data in various departments and fields.
The global demand for combined statistical and computing expertise outstrips supply, with evidence-based prediction forecasting major shortage in data analysts, at least, in the next 10 years.
To address this gap in the country and the region, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has launched the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics programme.
The new course seeks to equip professionals across various disciplines with the requisite skills, techniques and knowledge to solve various problems and address challenges using data.
The Data Science and Analytics degree programme set to be offered at JKUAT Karen Campus in Nairobi, commences in May 2021, and is primed to train professionals who will become Data Analysts.
The undergraduate course combines computational and inferential reasoning to draw conclusions based on data about different aspects.
In every facet of modern life from online shopping, social networks, to scientific research and finance, a lot of information is collected.
However, for data scientists, the main concern is how to turn the collected data into intelligence, through leveraging the application of cutting-edge techniques in Statistics and Computer Science.
The demand for data analytics is on a steady rise and soon, it will become an integral part of every organization and everything that people do. These reasons, partly explain just how critical Data Science and Analytics field is poised to be in the future.
Graduates in Data Science have lots of opportunities to forge careers in this critical area.
Data Science and Analytics course aims to train learners who have a keen interest in modern computing methodologies, specifically finding hidden patterns, meanings, and solutions through data consumption and analytics.
