Members of staff at JKUAT Karen Campus have been honored for their outstanding service and steadfast dedication to the University’s mission during a poignant thanksgiving Service organized by the Campus management on May 20, 2025.
The campus leveraged the occasion to celebrate its best-performing departments while also paying a tribute to retiring staff, whose years of devoted service have significantly shaped the institution’s development.
The event fostered a spirit of togetherness as attendees reflected on shared milestones.
The Health Department was recognized as the best-performing department, with the Admissions Department taking second place.
The most profound moment of the day came with the tribute to the eight retirees, who were celebrated for leading mentorship programs and enhancing the campus’s collaborative culture.
In her sermon, Dr. Agnes Njeru a lecturer from the Business studies and social sciences department, drew inspiration from biblical figures, Moses, Paul, and David who led with faith and devotion to their communities. She likened their leadership journeys to the enduring legacy of the retirees.
“Your years here were not just about personal achievement, but about building something greater together. Just as these leaders relied on faith and fellowship, may you carry that same spirit into your next chapter,” she said.
Prof. Hellen Mberia, the Principal, Karen Campus, centred her address around the theme: Reenergize, Refocus, and Re-strategize. Using the “Wheel of Life” framework encompassing Family & Friends, Health & Well-being, Career & Collaboration, and Personal & Collective Growth she emphasized the importance of balance and mutual support.
“Success is not just personal; it is woven through the connections we nurture. As you transition, remember that the bonds you’ve built here remain a foundation for the future,” said Prof. Mberia.
She further highlighted the value of emotional intelligence and adaptability in fostering a positive workplace and enabling individual development.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Bildad Gitau, who served as driver, offered heartfelt words of wisdom:
“Work with passion and purpose, not just for yourself but for those beside you. A thriving workplace is built on trust, respect, and lifting each other up.”
More than a farewell, the ceremony stood as a powerful tribute to unity and shared purpose. As the retirees’ step into new chapters of their lives, they leave behind a legacy of excellence and camaraderie, a blueprint for continued success at JKUAT Karen.
