
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) recently held a special Professorial Luncheon on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, to honor and celebrate the induction of new professors into its academic community.
The event brought together faculty members, university leadership, and invited guests, providing a platform to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of the newly appointed professors.
The luncheon served as both a formal and informal gathering, allowing new inductees to connect with their colleagues and share experiences. It highlighted the significant role professors play in advancing knowledge, driving research, and shaping the future of students at the university.

Professors are vital to society, playing key roles in shaping education, advancing research, and mentoring future leaders. As part of the celebration, the 10 new professors from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (COANRE), College of Pure and Applied Sciences (COPAS), and the College of Health Sciences (COHES) were officially inducted into their roles, marking a key moment in their academic careers.
In her remarks, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi described the event as a unique opportunity for the professors to connect with colleagues across departments, exchange meaningful ideas, and explore new avenues that will propel the university toward greater heights.

“For years, JKUAT has been organizing this luncheon to honor faculty members who are the pillars of our institution. This is not merely a gathering. It is a celebration of your unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge and contributing to the progress of society,” said Prof. Ngumi.
The Vice Chancellor lauded the impact of the new professors as educators, researchers, and mentors, emphasizing the significant responsibilities they bear in making valuable contributions to society.

Prof. Ngumi further said their achievements serve as a testament to the university’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and research innovation. She also underscored the important roles they will play in shaping the academic landscape, mentoring students, and advancing research that addresses contemporary global challenges.
In addition to celebrating academic achievements, keynote speaker, Prof. Paul Kamau Mbugua of Kenyatta University highlighted the importance of maintaining mental wellness and achieving a balance between professional and personal life.
He acknowledged the demanding nature of academia and the pressures it brings, stressing the need for professors to prioritize their mental health and well-being.
Prof. Mbugua encouraged the newly inducted professors to adopt a holistic approach to their careers one that focuses not only on advancing knowledge and research but also on caring for their mental and emotional health.
He emphasized that a balanced life enhances productivity, creativity, and overall satisfaction, ultimately enabling professors to better serve their students, colleagues, and society at large.
