Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) on November 12, 2025, hosted a delegation of Nigerian university registrars on a benchmarking visit designed to strengthen governance excellence and reshape administrative leadership across African universities.
The team, led by ARNU Chairman and Registrar of Nasarawa State University, Dr. Balal Ahmed II, was received by Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, Registrar (Academic Affairs), at the JKUAT Main Campus in Juja. The engagement provided a platform for in-depth discussions on university operations, governance structures, and best practices in institutional management.
During the session, Dr. Wanyama shared JKUAT’s mission, vision, and commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community service. He highlighted the University’s strong culture of collaboration with institutions across Africa, Europe, and beyond in areas such as research, curriculum development, infrastructure, and faculty and student exchange programmes.
The visiting registrars received an in-depth briefing on JKUAT’s leadership and governance structures, alumni engagement strategies, data protection policies aligned with the Kenya Data Protection Act, conflict resolution mechanisms for staff and students, and the University’s comprehensive registry standard operating procedures that enhance efficiency and service delivery.
The discussions created a valuable platform for exchanging ideas on strengthening efficiency, inclusivity, and data security while upholding high administrative standards.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Aggrey Wanyama described the visit as a testament to the expanding collaboration among African universities.
“JKUAT remains committed to fostering global partnerships that inspire institutional growth and operational excellence. Benchmarking visits like this create opportunities to learn from one another and strengthen the collective capacity of African universities,” Dr. Wanyama said.
ARNU Chairman, Dr. Balal Ahmed II, expressed gratitude for JKUAT’s openness and hospitality, noting that the insights gained would significantly benefit Nigerian institutions.
“This visit has been truly enriching. JKUAT’s structures, professionalism, and commitment to effective governance offer valuable lessons for our institutions back home. We look forward to continued collaboration as we work together to enhance university administration across Africa,” Dr. Ahmed II remarked.
The visit follows ARNU’s benchmarking missions to the University of Calgary (Canada) in 2023, the University of Houston (USA) in 2024, and most recently to the National University of Singapore and Carleton University (Canada) in 2025 affirming the association’s dedication to continuous learning and global engagement.
